Biden was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and moved with his family to Delaware in 1953 when he was ten years old.
EDUCATION
He studied at the University of Delaware before earning his law degree from Syracuse University. He was elect to the New Castle County Council in 1970 and became the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history. After he was elect to the United States Senate from Delaware in 1972, at age 29.
Biden was the chair or ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 12 years at Archmere Academy. In Claymont Biden played baseball and was a standout halfback and wide receiver on the high school football team. Though a poor student, he was class president in his junior and senior years. He graduated in 1961 At the University of Delaware in Newark, Biden briefly played freshman football and as an unexceptional student earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 with a double major in history and political science and a minor in English.

On August 27, 1966, Biden married Neilia Hunter (1942–1972) a student at Syracuse University after overcoming her parents’ reluctance for her to wed a Roman Catholic. Their marriage done in a Catholic church in Skaneateles, New York. They had three children Joseph R. Beau Biden (1969–2015)Robert Hunter Biden (born 1970), and Naomi Christina Amy Biden (1971–1972).

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born on November 20, 1942, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Biden (née Finnegan and Joseph Robinette Biden Sr The oldest child in a Catholic family, he has a sister, Valerie, and two brothers, Francis and James Jean was of Irish descent while Joseph Sr. had English, Irish, and French Huguenot ancestry.
Biden’s paternal line has been trace to stonemason William Biden, who was born in 1789 in Westbourne, England, and emigrate to Maryland in the United States by 1820. Biden’s father had been wealthy and the family purchased a home in the affluent Long Island suburb of Garden City in the fall of 1946 but he suffered business setbacks around the time Biden was seven years old and for several years the family lived with Biden’s maternal grandparents in Scranton.
Scranton fell into economic decline during the 1950s and Biden’s father could not find steady work. Beginning in 1953 when Biden was ten, the family lived in an apartment in Claymont Delaware, before moving to a house in nearby Mayfield Biden Sr. later became a successful used-car salesman, maintaining the family in a middle-class lifestyle.

The 1972 United States Senate election in Delaware was held on November 7, 1972. Incumbent Republican United States Senator J. Caleb Boggs ran for a third term in the United States Senate. Boggs faced off against Democrat Joe Biden, a New Castle County Councilman. Though Boggs was expected to easily win a third term, Biden narrowly defeated the incumbent on election day.

Neilia Hunter Biden (July 28, 1942) Skaneateles, New York, U.S. was an American teacher and the first wife of Joe Biden, the 46th and current president of the United States. She died in a car crash in 1972 with her one-year-old daughter, Naomi. Her two sons Beau and Hunter were both critically injured but survived the wreck.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE
Neilia Hunter met Joe Biden in Nassau, Bahamas, while they were both on spring break. Shortly after, Biden moved to Syracuse and attended law school. The couple married on August 27, 1966. After Biden graduated from law school, the Bidens moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where Biden was on the New Castle County Council.
On December 18, 1972, shortly after Joe became U.S. senator-elect, Neilia was driving with her three children west along rural Valley Road in Hockessin Delaware.
SECOND MARRIAGE
Biden met the teacher Jill Tracy Jacobs in 1975 on a blind date. They married at the United Nations chapel in New York on June 17, 1977. They spent their honeymoon at Lake Balaton in Hungarian. People’s Republic Biden credits her with the renewal of his interest in politics and life.
